Kia ora, Talofa, Malo,
Thank you for taking the time to visit our website.
At Te Paerangi, we believe every young person deserves to learn in a place where they feel welcomed, valued and inspired to achieve their very best. Our name, Te Paerangi – Steps to Excellence, reflects the journey we take alongside our students as they grow in confidence, discover their strengths and prepare for the future.
Everything we do is guided by our school values of Whakaute (Respect), Māia (Confidence), and Whakapono (Faith). These values shape the way we learn, build relationships and contribute positively to our school and wider community.
At the heart of our school is our Hapori Model. Hapori means community, and it reflects our belief that learning is strongest when students feel connected, supported and known. Each student belongs to a Hapori where they build meaningful relationships with their teachers and peers over several years, creating a strong sense of belonging and continuity throughout their middle school journey.
Our teachers work collaboratively within each Hapori to provide integrated and authentic learning experiences that connect learning across subjects and encourage students to think deeply, solve real-world problems and take increasing ownership of their learning. Just as importantly, the Hapori Model enables teachers to know each learner as an individual—their strengths, interests, aspirations and the support they need to flourish. We believe strong partnerships between school, students and whānau are fundamental to student success, and our Hapori structure helps foster these relationships every day.
A key part of learning at Te Paerangi is our Independent Learning Curriculum (ILC). The ILC is woven alongside our classroom learning, providing students with opportunities to explore their interests, develop independence and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways. Through inquiry, project-based learning and authentic challenges, students learn to ask questions, research, collaborate, create solutions and reflect on their progress. The ILC supports students to become confident, capable learners who are prepared to take responsibility for their learning journey.
We are equally proud of our strong culture of service. Through our Service Awards, students are encouraged to make a positive difference by demonstrating Service to Self through personal responsibility, resilience and striving for excellence, and Service to Community through kindness, leadership and serving others. We believe success is measured not only by academic achievement, but also by the positive impact our students have on those around them.
As a Years 7–10 school, we nurture curiosity, creativity, resilience and a love of learning while equipping students with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need for the future. We are proud to celebrate the rich diversity of our South Auckland community and the many cultures, languages and identities that make Te Paerangi such a vibrant place to learn.
Whether you are considering joining our school or are already part of our community, we hope this website gives you a sense of what makes Te Paerangi special. We look forward to partnering with you as your child takes their own Steps to Excellence.
