Pathways to NCEA and Beyond

At Te Paerangi, our Years 7–10 curriculum is intentionally designed to prepare students for a successful transition into senior secondary education and future pathways.

Throughout their middle school years, students develop the strong literacy, numeracy and learning habits that provide the foundation for achievement in NCEA. Alongside subject knowledge, they learn how to manage their time, organise their learning, think critically, solve complex problems and work both independently and collaboratively.

Our curriculum places a strong emphasis on:

• Building confidence in reading, writing and mathematics.
• Developing inquiry and research skills.
• Applying learning to authentic, real-world contexts.
• Using digital technologies effectively and responsibly.
• Setting goals, reflecting on progress and taking ownership of learning.

Through our Independent Learning Curriculum (ILC), students experience the kind of project-based learning, self-management and independent thinking that are increasingly valued in senior secondary study, tertiary education and the modern workplace.

By the time students leave Te Paerangi, they are well prepared to enter NCEA with the knowledge, skills and confidence to succeed. More importantly, they leave as adaptable, resilient and capable young people who are ready to continue learning, contribute positively to their communities and pursue pathways that reflect their strengths, interests and aspirations.
