PROJECT BASED LEARNING

South Auckland Middle School partners with Innovative Education Consultants to deliver a rich, thematic Project Based Curriculum.

Innovative Education’s Project Based Curriculum was designed by our head consultant, Alwyn Poole. In writing the projects, he was motivated by a desire to put in place a curriculum and methods of learning that allow students to develop their knowledge and skills while retaining (or developing if they have lost it) an intrinsic love of learning.

IEC’s Project Based Curriculum treats the investigation of a topic as the basis for learning. Both knowledge and skills are valued, and are treated as seamless and interrelated. The traditional artificial barriers between subjects are broken down. Mathematics, Science, English, Social Studies, Art, Technology, Health & PE are integrated, creating a thematic project. The complete IEC Project Based Curriculum is a four year comprehensive curriculum for Year 7 - 10. Each year a student at South Auckland Middle School will complete 8 projects - 2 per term.
